by admin on September 9, 2010

You’ve probably spent your whole life hearing about how good washing your face is for you. If you’re like most of us, however, washing your face feels more like a chore that you have to do than something you should make the time to do. Even after going through puberty and fighting daily breakouts and acne, washing your face probably feels like a chore–especially right before bedtime. Here’s the thing: you need to keep your face clean to keep dirt and bacteria from infecting your pores. Do you still want to be prone to breakouts in your thirties and onward? Here are the steps you need to take to keep your face clean

Make sure your hair stays away from your face.

Throughout the day your scalp produces oil which gets into your hair and then gets transferred to your face if you don’t take steps to keep this from happening. If you have long hair that gets in your face or bangs that rest against your forehead for most of the day you could transfer that oil to your pores, which will then get clogged and produce pimples and acne. Sure having long hair is fun, but if you want to fight against acne, keep it off of your face. There are plenty of options for style and keeping your hair off of your face. Your face and skin will be so happy! Make an appointment with a dermatologist. Sadly, some people suffer from acne that is so severe that “regular” acne treatments simply will not work. For people who have tried all of the over the counter facial cleansers and acne fighters and who still suffer from extensive acne, a professional’s advice is often needed. A professional will be able to prescribe extra strength acne fighters to help you. You might be one of those people whose acne is caused by other medical conditions and a dermatologist will be able to properly diagnose this. Believe it or not sometimes genetics and other health conditions can be the cause of acne. Your dermatologist will give you an exam to help figure out the exact cause of your acne and how to properly fight against it.

When you do experience a breakout or some acne, treat it but don’t pick it! Never squeeze or pick at zits. You never want to mess with your acne. It is all right to wash your face and treat your breakout with some acne fighting cleanser but never ever pop or pick at your zits. When left to heal naturally some breakouts might stick around for a day or two. Which would you prefer to face? A few days with a pimple or years and years of acne scars?

You have lots of acne treatments to choose from. One person might need a stronger cleanser while another does fine with natural options. Some people find that treating acne is as easy as getting into a regular exercise routine and eating a natural and balanced diet. It will take some trials and failures before you find success with your acne treatments. Eventually you will learn what works for you and what won’t. Don’t give up and soon you will have clean and clear skin!
